I've decided to start this blog as an off shoot of my New Year's resolution. What was it? To no longer eat at corporate run, frozen delivered and reheated pre-portioned chain restaurants. I'm trying to eat only at locally owned restaurants in at attempt to tastier, more freshly prepared, authentic food that better expresses the food culture of this tiny little state we are all so proud of. Not all of it is going to be super nutritious and healthy but it will hopefully be well enjoyed and appreciated for what it is. After all, you can't live in a state that is proud of it's "gaggers" and expect to eat only great salads.
I'm aiming for restaurants owned locally where the owners are both running the kitchen and personally serving you their fare. And maybe, I can only hope, help out the local economy a little rather than the huge conglomerate companies that run the big chains.
And let's face it. Don't we all prefer a fresh made sandwich, plate of pasta, or chicken dish that we know was made after we ordered it featuring ingredients that they didn't have to ship in from three-thousand miles away? I know I do. It just tastes better. Even pizza from a locally owned pizza place tastes better than the huge chain restaurants you could easily eat at here as you could in Texas or California.
So if your like me and prefer fresh food from a place where you "know a guy" come with me on this rhode trip where each week I'll be featuring a new place. They aren't all going to be amazing or even good, but I might just bring to light a few new places you may have never heard of, or you've been trying to get all your friends to eat at forever.
